OVER HERE, OVER HERE! LEAVE CLOWNY ALONE, I’M THE ONE YOU WANT! I’M A BIG DOCTOR WHO FAN AND A BIG BATMAN FAN AND DAVID WOULD NOT BE A GOOD JOKER! HE WOULD BE MISCAST! TERRIBLY MISCAST, SAYS ME! MWAHAHAHAH! LOOK AT ME, I’M A TARGET!
Zhinxy is, quite sincerely, about the biggest Batman fan I know. She’s read thousands of the comics and has been doing so since she was a little kid. She knows the canon inside out and has an incredible grasp of the characters borne from years of extensive reading and watching and otherwise spending time with them. Generally, when she says something, I concede to it.
So for her to say Tennant wouldn’t make a good Joker… I rest my case.
A question though, what other Tennant’s performances have you guys seen? :)
In truth, I love him and know him best by far as the Tenth Doctor, and while I’ve never seen his Shakespeare work live, which someday I HOPE to… I loved him in Casanova, and I’ve seen Goblet of Fire, of course. But the thing is, I don’t think ANY of the Doctors could be a passable Joker! Frankly, the qualities that make one a great Doctor (And Tennant surely was!) are qualities that would make one NOT a great Joker.
Honestly, he’s an amazing and versatile actor, and he’d do his best. I think it would be passable, that, if it happened? You’d be able to tell it was a great actor doing his best… But he wouldn’t be J. You can’t have your Time Lord and Clown Prince of Crime too! Not in the same guy. :)
I think that’s a pretty good way of putting it. I mean, you could Joker him up and it’d make for an interesting picture because he can pull this great wicked grin up out of nowhere, but I think that’s as far as it could really go. In terms of his acting ability, there’s just a darkness and a wildness that I’m not sure David could really reach.
